Seeing you off on the train Never before have I felt so sad The winter sky in Paris Always makes for separation. I see you off to your mother’s home And say to you with my kisses: Nothing can be longer Than one hundred days when we’re apart. The lights are yellow inside the Gare de Lyon The snow wildly whirls all over the place I hold your hand and feel like crying Whatever I say would be too late. Le’t kiss this instant and then part Cry, cry, my love So the stars will weave through your tangled hair And gently fall on your wet shoulders Cry, cry, my love My little one from the Quartier Latin So the dew will seep into the night’s borders And my way home will be ruefully filled with your warm tears. Ah tonight Never before so sad The winter sky in Paris The cold cuts into a thousand partings. Your train will be covered with snow The carriage is full of strange faces How could you feel secure and safe So your night sleep would be warm And sound on the long solitary journey? Are your sky’s dreams filled with stars I’m left all alone in the night The winter sky in Paris At night rarely shows stars The wintry sky of separation Never before have I felt so sad.
